Reading Recovery

August 22: Today was PL for Reading Recovery, at Deanwell School.
A very interesting day, which gave me some understanding of how to implement the reading running record, and use other parts of the Clay book on reading assessment.
The presenters were very passionate about reading!  So it was good to hear dialogue around that, as well to hear what other schools do in terms of their expectations of assessments and recording of where children are at with reading.
I was able to observe tests in action via a one way window - I found this really useful.

Other useful information:
Comprehension of the book the child is reading - important to unpack the book to ensure the child understands what they are reading, discussion about the book, similar or shared experiences around the topic?

When testing LID we can ask what do we call these? (letters)

CAP - important to teach punctuation, hfw, capital letters, etc

The writing task - can prompt child with words you think they know

Some photos of relevance to me:

A text book I think might be useful for Kowhai Team
