Kawenata - CoL

The Tainui “Kawenata” school review matrix is a tool that helps us to consider bicultural practices through a Tainui lens.

HBHS and HGHS are already using this are they support and plan for pathways to employment or further study with their Tainui students.

We need to think about how we can support and strengthen our bicultural practices for our Tainui children. We need to recognize the value of our place reflecting Tainui in particular.

The Tainui “Kawenata” school review matrix

4 focus areas

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Meaningful Pathways
  • Reo and Tikanga
  • Tribal Connections

4 levels of alignment

  • HE KAKANO ‘A seed’
  • KIA TUPU ‘To grow’
  • KIA HUA ‘To prosper’
  • KIA PUAWAI ‘To sustain’

Where are we placed as a school?

My feeling is that we could be looking more at focusing on tribal connections.
How? Marae, museum (waka Te Winika), speakers at Positive Assembly, more opportunities for whanau groups, utilize specialists in the CoL such as Toti and Holly (kapa haka), a trip to Turangawaewae?
