 How do you start your math lesson.  What we do at the beginning should be what we want children to remember.

Maintenance math, fluency maths.

Can be done at any time - not necessarily at maths time. 

What makes a great warm-up activity?

Does it engage everybody at the same time?

does it focus on thinking or speed or luck

it is easy to learn

does it provide the right level of challenge

can it be adapted for other le vels of math

is it easy to prepare - minimal equipment needed

Calendar maths - specifically set up wall with calendar and counting.

tallies - how many children have lost a tooth

number of the day - how can we make this number?
